Unlocking the Importance of IECEx Certification: EPIT’s New Course for Hazardous Area Equipment

In industries where safety is paramount, such as oil & gas, chemical processing, and mining, ensuring your equipment meets international standards is not just good practice, it’s essential. If you work with equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres, you’ve likely heard of IECEx certification, but understanding the process and how to navigate it can be complex. This is where EPIT’s Group’s latest training offering, IECEx Equipment Certification Guidance, comes in.

What is IECEx Certification?

Before we dive into the course details, let’s start with the basics. The IECEx certification is an internationally recognised system designed to ensure that equipment used in explosive atmospheres is safe and complies with the strictest global standards. Whether it’s electrical or non-electrical, the equipment needs to meet these rigorous requirements to prevent accidents in hazardous environments.

Why is IECEx Certification Important?

Operating in hazardous areas, like offshore oil rigs or chemical plants, comes with serious risks. Explosive gases, vapours, mists and dust can make a typical day at the office quite dangerous if your equipment isn’t certified for use in these environments. That’s why the IECEx system exists, to reduce the risk of ignition and ensure all equipment used in these hazardous environments is certified in accordance with the relevant international standards.

IECEx certification isn’t just about checking a box; it’s about safeguarding lives and assets. Certified equipment undergoes thorough testing, ensuring that it can operate safely in environments where the smallest spark could lead to a catastrophe.

EPIT’s New IECEx Equipment Certification Course

At EPIT, we understand the importance of safety and compliance in hazardous environments, which is why we’ve developed a comprehensive course to help professionals navigate the complexities of IECEx certification.

Our new course, IECEx Equipment Certification Guidance, is designed to provide you with a clear understanding of the current requirements for certifying both electrical and non-electrical equipment. The course is particularly beneficial for those involved in manufacturing, certifying, or maintaining equipment in explosive atmospheres.

What Will You Learn?

We’ve packed this course with practical, hands-on information that is immediately applicable to your work. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:

    • Understanding the Scope: Learn which products fall within the IECEx certification scope, and how to identify the appropriate certification requirements.

    • Zones and Protection Levels: Get familiar with the different zones of use, equipment groups, and equipment protection levels, so you can ensure your product is correctly certified for use in it’s intended operational location.

    • IECEx Operational Documents: Gain an in-depth understanding of the operational documents relevant to the certification process and how to navigate them effectively.

    • Certification Bodies and Test Labs: Learn about the roles of IECEx Certification Bodies (Ex CBs) and Test Laboratories (Ex TLs), and the requirements of Test Reports (Ex TRs) and Quality Assurance documentation.

    • Quality Assurance: Understand the importance of Quality Assessment Reports (QARs) and how they contribute to maintaining the safety and integrity of certified equipment.

    • Hands-On Certification Project: You’ll work on a practical certification project, giving you real-world experience in assembling product documentation packages for IECEx certification.

I did compex 01-04. English is not my first language. I got extra support, a bit of extra explonation, extra advice. All of this was super helpful. The instructors were very knowlagable, passionate and well tempered. I failed one of the units but I passed it second time.

Done the CompEx Ex01-Ex04 with Mike and Dodd, and they were both excellent! They both broke things down and made them easier to understand, as well as being genuinely good people who you can have a normal conversation and laugh with!

An absolutely brilliant training and test facility that made the dreaded "Compex Refresher" course, a far more enjoyable and beneficial experience. From the great training material to the very knowledgeable instructors, it all helped to teach us about the new practices and standards in Compex and I certainly left knowing more than I did when I walk through the door Monday morning. Thanks to the all staff! 5*
